Elder James E. Johnson, Sr. has been Senior Pastor of the Newport News Church of God, the Mother Church of the Gospel Spreading Church, since November, 1987. Elder Johnson came to the pastorate after a long and successful career in the United Sates Navy. Elder Johnson is blessed to share his life and ministry with First Lady Louella Johnson. Pastor Johnson has also been able to entrust his Assistant Pastor, Elder Alphsono Holt, in supporting and carrying out the local mission of the church.
Church focus and goals: Pastor Johnson’s ministry is guided by the principle that as a body of believers, it should be the goal of the church community to embrace and love people and to let them know that Christ wants to give them a future and a hope that is “absolutely fabulous”.
Personal Interest: Elder Johnson is a pastor who loves to spend time exploring and seeking an understanding of Biblical Prophecy and sharing that knowledge with others (teaching).
Favorite Scripture: Pastor Johnson’s favorite scripture is 2 Corinthians 5:17. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”
